Prompted by President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall, the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus invite Bay Area audiences to celebrate the musical traditions of Mexico and beyond. ¡Viva Mexico! Beyond Border Walls presents an eclectic program of live classical music in San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre, including everything from Aaron Copland’s El Salón México to Jose Moncayo’s Huapango and contemporary compositions from Bay Area Latino musicians and soloists. Topping off the program, our special guests Coro Redes y Cantos de Chapala, led by their Director General Moisés Real Gómez, arrive from the state of Jalisco, Mexico, to share their signature mixture of ballads and folksongs that have been performed across Mexico since earliest colonial times.
Join Maestro Urs Leonhardt Steiner, with special guest conductor Martha Rodriguez-Salazar, and the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus to support and celebrate our Latino neighbors – and experience live classical music from beyond Trump’s border walls.
Program to include:
- José Pablo Moncayo — Huapango
- Aaron Copland — El Salón México

- Antonio Flores — Coyohuacan
